Our Honeymoon in French Polynesia: Moorea, Bora Bora, and Tahiti
The vacation of all vacations

Flashback: Our Honeymoon in French Polynesia (Yes, It Was Amazing!)
Hard to believe it’s been 20 years since our honeymoon, but my husband and I still talk about that trip regularly. Why? Because when you get to visit the islands of Moorea, Bora Bora, and Tahiti on your honeymoon, that’s pretty tough to beat. And we’ve tried – trust me!
Moorea
We started off in Moorea for a few nights, and it was our first experience in an overwater bungalow. Sure, we had a beautiful king-size bed in our room, but we regularly found ourselves on the floor looking through the plexiglass window at the beautiful coral and fish below us. That was an incredible view, but I have to say that the view from our private deck was even better. Picture this: you wake up, open the doors, and there’s the ocean – right there. We snorkeled right off our deck, kayaked in the lagoon, hiked through lush green mountains, and ended each day with ridiculously good food under the stars. It felt luxurious, peaceful, secluded, and everything we wanted our honeymoon to be.
Bora Bora
Our next stop was Bora Bora, and if you’ve ever seen a screensaver with unreal shades of blue - that’s the place. We stayed in another overwater bungalow (because why not?), and spent our days swimming, sipping tropical drinks, and soaking up the kind of quiet you can only find in the middle of the ocean. The water beneath our overwater bungalow in Bora Bora was deeper than in Moorea, so we could actually jump off of our deck. One afternoon, we went on a snorkeling trip where we got to see, touch, and swim with stingrays. My husband loved it, but I often prefer viewing my wildlife from a distance - thought the guide did think it would be funny to put a stingray on my back when I wasn't looking. I nearly died right there out of sheer terror, but thankfully I lived to see another beautiful day in paradise (plus 20 more years and counting!).
Tahiti
We spent our last night on the island of Tahiti, where we had a wonderful dinner in a food truck park just down the road from our resort. Tahiti felt a little less secluded and a little more populated, but still beautiful. We got to experience some of the local culture and explore the island a little before heading home the next day. For us, the one night (2 days) was the perfect amount of time to spend.
Thinking about French Polynesia for your honeymoon or romantic getaway?
Do it! Why? Because it’s one of those places that actually looks like the postcards and screensavers. It’s a place where luxury meets nature: where you can hike in the morning and float in the lagoon that afternoon; where you can eat fresh-caught fish and delicious French salads for lunch, then have a decadent French feast for dinner; where you can watch the fish swimming beneath your overwater bungalow in the morning, then watch fire dancers perform at night. Whether you’re wanting a romantic honeymoon destination, a peaceful and secluded place to unplug and reconnect with each other, or a place to celebrate new beginnings, French Polynesia delivers.
We came home rested, happy, sun-kissed, and slightly heartbroken to leave. And even now, I still say, “Let’s go back.” In fact, I’m going to make my argument to go back again as soon as I’m done writing this blog!
Thinking about your own trip to paradise? I’d love to help you make it everything you imagine and more.
