Why Christmas is the Perfect Time to Take a Cruise
If the thought of spending Christmas with ocean breezes, tropical sunsets, and zero stress sounds like a dream, you're on the right track. Cruising during the holidays has become a favorite way for families, couples, and even solo travelers to celebrate the season in style. Here’s why a Christmas cruise might just be the best gift you can give yourself and your family this year:
Santa Loves Delivering on Cruise Ships
Yes, even at sea, Santa knows how to find you. Most major cruise lines have special Christmas Day appearances where Santa hands out gifts to kids and poses for photos. Of course, you can always give the cruise as the main gift and let the kids know that Santa will only be delivering a gift or two on the ship.
And no need to stress about baking cookies; the ship’s chefs have plenty ready for him (and for you too).
Magical Holiday Décor Everywhere
The moment you step onboard, you’ll feel the festive spirit. Cruise ships are transformed into floating winter wonderlands, decked out with towering Christmas trees, glittering garlands, twinkling lights, and even life-sized gingerbread houses. It’s pure holiday magic, and you don’t have to lift a finger.
Holiday-Themed Activities for All Ages
Most of the major cruise lines will offer special holiday-themed activities during the week, from cookie decorating to holiday movies to festive trivia to midnight mass, there’s an activity for everyone. The best part, you didn’t have to plan it. You just decide which ones you want to do and let the cruise line handle the rest!
Special Christmas Menus: No Cooking, No Cleaning
Leave the holiday prep behind. Cruise lines serve up lavish Christmas dinners with traditional favorites like roast turkey, honey-glazed ham, and decadent desserts. If you want something a little nicer, consider splurging on one of the ship’s specialty dining restaurants for Christmas dinner. Just be sure to book early since this will be popular.
Invite the Whole Family:It’s Built for Everyone
No need to stress about which family to visit first, where you spent Thanksgiving, or how you’re going to fit all of your family visits into a single day. Cruises make family gatherings effortless. Kids are entertained in age-appropriate clubs, adults can unwind at the spa or by the pool, and grandparents can take in a show or enjoy the ocean views. Everyone gets what they want out of the holiday.
Hot tip: We regularly cruise as a multi-generational family. We always book the WiFi package so that we can check in throughout the day and let everyone know what activity we’re off to next in case anyone wants to join in. I also pre-book all of our dinners so that everyone knows the time and place for dinner each night. Everyone is free to do their own thing during the day, or join in on some family activities, but we all agree to meet up for dinner each night. It ensures the cruise remains a family trip, but allows everyone to do what they want each day. A huge win for everyone!
Island Hopping Beats Mall Hopping Every Single Time
No need to fight the mall crowds to find the perfect gift; you’ve already found it – a cruise! Many Christmas cruises sail to sunny destinations like the Bahamas, St. Thomas, Cozumel, Aruba, and more. When in port, you can spend your days paddleboarding, swimming, snorkeling, or just lounging on the beach.
The Gift of a Stress-Free Holiday
Between the decor, the entertainment, the food, and the sunshine, your only job is to enjoy it all. Cruises are designed to make the holidays feel special and easy, which is a rare combination.
